Tour of Huizhou Ancient City
The gentle spring breeze of March caresses the fresh greenery, while the exploration of knowledge transcends the confines of the classroom. In order to promote the physical and mental health development of students, and make full use of the splendid spring scenery, Anqing Foreign Language School's Junior High School Division of the west campus organized all the teachers and students of Grade 7 and Grade 8 to visit Flower Mountain Mysterious Caves and Huizhou Ancient City respectively on March 25th and 26th, thus initiating a time-traveling study tour.
First and foremost, teachers and students entered the secret caves of the Flower Mountain Mysterious Cave, where the 36 grottoes are scattered like stars, and the thousand-year-old carvings on the rock walls have silently formed poems. For one thing, students touched the chisel marks on the stone wall where the term ‘karst landform’ from the geography textbooks took on a vivid and concrete meaning, while the concept of ‘mechanical structure’ from the physics classes came alive before their eyes. For another, the study tour takes nature as the textbook, cultivating students' scientific thinking through questions and doubts. In the meantime, the grand event is centered around historical relics, allowing us to appreciate the wisdom and tenacity of the ancestors.
Furthermore, teacher and students strolled along the cobblestone paths of the ancient city of Huizhou. What’s noteworthy is that the Xu Guoshi Memorial Archway stands majestically, and the government office of Huizhou once again displays the elegance of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Additionally, students wandered through the ancient alleys and courtyards of Doushan Street, using history as a mirror to understand the diligence and innovation of the ‘Huizhou Spirit’, and using culture as a bridge to awaken the sense of responsibility and sentiment for safeguarding traditions.
In a nutshell, the journey of a young traveler back home is not in vain; Instead, it is a fulfillment of the spring scenery and a self-fulfillment as well. More remarkably, this springtime study tour has enabled knowledge to take root in the process of traveling and culture to be passed down through experiences. Thus, in the future, we will surely take the mountains and rivers as our canvases and civilization as our pens to continue writing more poems of growth!
